Since Paragon was originally intended to be held in Blackpool, the plan for this cover was to depict Blackpool Tower as a rocket on the launchpad.

But then the con committee wrecked that plan in two separate ways. First, they stole our thunder by using that idea on the cover of a PR. Then, they went and moved the convention to Hinckley, in Leicestershire. It's all a Conspiracy, I tell you.

So, plan B. As anyone who went to Paragon will tell you, just about the only claim to fame that Hinckley has is that Hansom Cabs were made there. So: Hansom cab + alien + gratuitous use of superfluous technology for that abstract effect = cover.
