What is FONT?
FONT is a Manchester-based pub SF group that grew out of (but now has little connection with) WARPED, the SF/Fantasy society at Manchester University.
Meetings are held on the second, fourth and (when there is one) fifth Thursdays of each month, at the Bank pub on the junction of Mosley Street/Charlotte Street, in central Manchester. The first arrivals may be there as early as 20:00, but things don't really get going until about 20:30-21:00.
What do we do at meetings? Everyone always asks that, with a suspicious look in their eye, obviously afraid that they'll have to undergo some terrifying ordeal.
Well, we sit in the pub. And chat. And drink a bit. That's about it really. The only arcane ritual is reserved for those who perpetrate (for that is the word) unspeakable puns within earshot. Though you'd have to be going some to out-do the Don-Hubbard double act in this department, and we've been sorely lacking quality headgear in recent years.
Getting There
The pub is on the junction of Mosely Street and Charlotte Street, about half-way between Piccadilly Gardens and St Peter's Square. If I've done things right, that should be bang in the middle of this map.
It's usually possible to park on-street fairly near the pub. For those on public transport, Piccadilly Gardens (bus/tram), Market Street, Mosley Street and St Peter's Square are all within easy walking distance. Piccadilly Railway station is also conveniently close.
